Sub-Surface Printing
Second-surface printing on transparent substrates ensures inks, legends, and brand colors remain completely impervious to abrasion, harsh industrial solvents, and aggressive cleaning agents.
At Dongguan Ravo Electronics Co., Ltd., graphic overlays are designed as high-integrity barrier interfaces protecting underlying membrane circuits, PCBs, and sub-assemblies against chemical exposure, UV degradation, water ingress, and continuous mechanical operation.
Second-surface printing on transparent substrates ensures inks, legends, and brand colors remain completely impervious to abrasion, harsh industrial solvents, and aggressive cleaning agents.
Combine velvet, matte, and anti-glare finishes with crystal-clear or tinted transparent display windows engineered for full compatibility with LCD, LED, and OLED screen cutouts.
Custom tooling delivers rim embossing, pillow embossing, or dome actuation forms to guide user finger placement and enhance tactile switch feedback, even when operated with heavy gloves.
Manufactured strictly according to OEM drawings, CAD specifications, and target operating environments.
Compare standard film substrates to identify the optimal match for chemical resistance, flexural fatigue, optical transparency, and cost.
| Substrate Material | Flex Life & Fatigue | Chemical Resistance | Optical Windows | Recommended Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester (PET) Autotex / Autoflex | Exceptional (>5 million flex cycles, ideal for embossed buttons) | Superior resistance to harsh chemicals, industrial solvents, alcohols, and acids | Selective clear or anti-glare printed texture windows | Medical diagnostic devices, harsh industrial controllers, continuous-use membrane keypads |
| Polycarbonate (PC) Lexan / Makrofol | Moderate (Best suited for flat surfaces or light rim embossing) | Susceptible to prolonged aromatic hydrocarbon and ketone exposure | Excellent intrinsic light transmission; crystal-clear LCD display windows | Home automation panels, consumer appliances, indoor equipment fascias, cost-sensitive runs |
| Acrylic (PMMA) | Rigid plate only (No mechanical key deflection) | Good weatherability and moderate chemical resistance | Highest clarity, optical purity, and high surface hardness (up to 4H-6H) | Rigid cover lenses, thick display faceplates, touch screen front frames |
| Silicone Rubber Overlays | Superior 3D ergonomic movement (1 million+ actuations) | Excellent water, weather, and thermal endurance (-40°C to +180°C) | Opaque keys with laser-etched backlit legends or silicone windows | Rugged field controllers, handheld telemetry gear, medical hand-pendants |
Adhesive options include genuine 3M 467MP, 3M 468MP, 3M 9448A, and waterproof closed-cell foam gaskets, selected to adhere reliably to aluminum, steel, ABS, and powder-coated housings.
Direct technical answers to the most common queries raised by international procurement managers and mechanical engineers.
Polyester (PET) is the standard choice for tactile membrane switches with embossed keys because it withstands over 5 million switch cycles without cracking or showing flex fatigue. It also offers superior chemical resistance against industrial cleaners. Polycarbonate (PC) is more economical, easy to thermoform, and provides superior optical clarity for large digital display windows, making it ideal for flat control panels and domestic appliances.
We use sub-surface (reverse) printing on the underside of transparent film. All graphical legends, logos, and colored backgrounds are viewed through the thickness of the film substrate, ensuring that mechanical rubbing, fingernail scratches, and surface chemicals never come into direct contact with the ink layer.
Yes. We selectively print transparent tinted or water-clear window coatings over designated display cutouts. Selective textures (matte, fine velvet) are printed on the front, while leaving the window zones high-gloss clear or tinted (red, green, blue, smoke) for optimal readout contrast and zero display distortion.
Vector artwork files in Adobe Illustrator (.AI), PDF, CorelDRAW, or EPS format are required for color separation and silkscreen preparation. For outer perimeter cutouts, key locations, and adhesive gaps, please supply CAD drawings in DXF or DWG format with Pantone (PMS) or RAL color codes specified.
We standardly laminate genuine 3M high-performance acrylic adhesives, including 3M 467MP (0.05 mm) for smooth metal/plastic surfaces and 3M 468MP (0.13 mm) for lightly textured or powder-coated housings. For low surface energy plastics, modified acrylic transfer tapes like 3M 9448A or foam gaskets are specified.
Following final drawing and artwork sign-off, functional prototype samples typically ship within 5 to 7 business days. High-volume production batches are dispatched in 10 to 18 business days depending on embossing tooling, laser die-cutting, and order quantity.
